I Can Ride Bike Program

Believe It Foundation partners with Kinetic Kids to assist with its I Can Ride bike program. The mission of I Can Ride is to teach individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement, in turn, creates a gateway of opportunity, helping them gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives. The Believe It Foundation sponsors kids to participate in this program, in addition to purchasing bikes for some of its participants.

Bankshot™ Basketball

In September 2020 Believe It Foundation and Harlandale ISD, opened San Antonio’s first all-inclusive and adapted basketball court in the Harlandale community. Located at the Jewel Wietzel Center (9131 Yett Drive) close to Schulze Elementary School and across the walking track from Kingsborough Middle School, the Bankshot™ Basketball court consists of 21-baskets each with a unique bankboard requiring a different banked shot to score.

Bankshot™ Basketball resembles miniature golf, with 21 baskets that increase in difficulty but are based on strategy and personal ability. Players must use the basket and backboard to their advantage to get the ball through the hoop. The court is also stationary, meaning it does not require any legwork to play. There is no running, no jumping, no offense, no defense. Participants play alongside, not against each other creating equality for everyone in non-aggressive, accessible and inclusionary variations. The basketball system also easily accommodates social distancing among participants. Bankshot does not require teams or up-close participation, yet it promotes inclusion without body contact or defeating others.

The Bankshot Basketball system was generously given by Believe It Foundation, Greehey Family Foundation, and Spaulding Family Trust. Thank you to McCoy’s and We Do It All Brothers for gifting the installation of the court. A HUGE thank you and shout out to these outstanding supporters for helping us pave the path to inclusion!
